No sugarplums or gumdrops have been dancing in my head
There’s patriots and nationalists
And when the latter don’t know the difference
My shadow comes out to play, lord I wish that I could say

Woke up in the stands with blood on my hands
“You’ll pay for this!” They scream as I am lynched
And torn limb from limb
Immune to their sin I look up with a grin
Quietus is bliss, drug out by my wrists
And as my world goes dark I have made my peace with God
The epitaph of a man who’s subconscious went too far
And I shook hands with the devil who controls me in my sleep
Because I am no sleepwalker, like I told you, I creep
And on my tombstone it should read:
